Hiking in nature inspires my imagery, from streams to coastlines to forests. I layer textured papers into my paintings, for their rich tactile quality. My pastels emphasize a quality of light, and the encaustics range from nature imagery to whimsical abstracts.
Jeanne Rosen Sofen earned a B.A. in Fine Arts from UCSC in 1976; after graduating, she worked for 10 years at Bonny Doon Art Glass. These experiences influenced her work, reinforcing the impact of light, color, and design; her study of painting, drawing, & encaustics have continued to evolve over the years. She has participated in numerous individual and group exhibitions throughout California, and beyond. She has won several awards, and her work is in collections including Lucille Packard Children’s Hospital/Stanford, Community Hospital of Monterey Peninsula, Plantronics, Inc, & Cisco Systems.
